As a ceramicist my work has centred on nature, as I am attracted to the beauty and pristine qualities of organic forms. By taking elements from flowers, leaves and plant structures, I have combined them to create imaginary objects. Each ‘one-off’ piece is displayed in a handmade wooden box, so it can be observed like a specimen in a museum. This new body of work has developed over the last four years, since I graduated from my degree course.

Since my foundation year I have been excited about creating sets or installations at a miniature level, which has recently re-emerged as an important aspect in my work. Over the last few months I have been working on bringing lifelike qualities to the pieces, such as movement and even personality. These ideas have led to the creation of stylised birds to sit amongst tree structures. By creating a scene and positioning the birds within the branches or on the ground I hope the viewer can relate to the emotions being portrayed such as loss, sadness and companionship.

Combining my love for glazing, experimenting with textures and my interest in fashion has drawn me to vibrant colours and finishes for these pieces. Characters in Japanese graphics, illustration and fantasy game worlds have also influenced this work.
